Our client was a restrained driver stopped in traffic when her vehicle was struck from behind by the defendant. Upon impact, she suffered whiplash, causing her head to snap back against the seat. Her knee struck the dashboard, and she also experienced a band of pain around her abdomen.

She was transported to Swedish Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with a cervical strain and referred to the Swedish Family Medicine Cherry Hill Clinic for follow-up care. At Cherry Hill, she reported worsening pain radiating from her neck into her head on the left side and down her left arm, describing it as a “numbing ache.” She was diagnosed with a sprain of the left trapezius muscle.

Two weeks later, her symptoms had not improved and were significantly affecting her sleep. Muscle spasms in the trapezius were observed. Although trigger point injections were offered at that time, she initially declined and was instead referred to physical therapy. Her treatment focused heavily on the left trapezius, which continued to cause significant discomfort and interfere with her ability to rest.

As her pain persisted, massage therapy was added to her treatment plan. She continued physical therapy for nearly six months, yet still reported ongoing pain in the left trapezius. Ultimately, she agreed to proceed with a trigger point injection in an effort to obtain relief.

Our client experienced substantial pain for approximately seven months following the collision, as reflected in her extended course of treatment and eventual need for injection therapy. Her medical expenses totaled $5,900. In addition, her injuries interfered with her ability to perform her job duties and impacted her efforts to secure new employment after her position ended.
